Campus to the Capital

Friday, April 19th, 2019 from 9:30am to 3:00pm (PT)

About

Do you want your voice to be heard by your state representatives? Have you ever wondered how to get more involved in politics and government? Are you passionate about an issue and want to see action?

Campus to the Capital is an event where we are bringing University of Nevada, Reno students to the Nevada State Legislature in Carson City, NV to advocate on behalf of issues that are affecting students the most: the cost and affordability of higher education, housing and food insecurity, sustainability and the environment, and sexual assault/harassment.

Timeline of the day:

Campus Escort will be provided. We will leave at 9:30 am from the Joe and return back to campus at 3:30 pm.

From 10-1pm, we will be tabling inside the state legislature building.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Between 10:30 am and 12 pm, 15 students will be able to sit in the Assembly Floor chambers with their assembly person and be introduced into the record. If you would like to be considered for as one of the 15, please indicate on your registration.

At 12 pm, we will be having a press conference/rally outside the building. This is where we would like to have as many people as possible speaking about issues they are passionate about. We will provide training and support for those interested in speaking. But, you can also decide to speak during the press conference too, even if you haven't prepared anything.

Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to speak with the staff of their representatives about issues they care about. We will try to the best of our availability to schedule those meetings for you, and assist you with talking points and any other guidance you may need.

Once you register, we will be in contact with you with more information and to answer any questions you may have. Even if you are still unsure if you are able to make it or even just 25% interested in this event, sign up and we'll be happy to answer any questions you have about the event.

Our goal is to have as many students as possible at the legislature. We want to amplify our presence, and show our representatives that student voices matter and should be considered in their legislation.
