Play Leader Fall 2015

Tuesday, September 1st from 8:00am to Wednesday, December 23rd, 2015 3:00pm (CT)

About

ACGC is a non-profit organization that counsels children and families to improve mental health through early diagnosis and treatment.

Play Leaders interact and create a pleasant, structured environment for children waiting to see a therapist. Play Leaders observe the children's social skills with peers or adults and when necessary discuss interaction styles and playroom activities with the therapist treating the child.

Play Leaders are an important role at ACGC. They allow parents to meet one-on-one with the therapist and not worry about paying for childcare for the weekly appointments. Play Leaders are not babysitters, they are an extension of the therapeutic process here. They provide a safe environment for clients to practice the skills they are learning in session and help us have full picture of the clients opportunities.

As a volunteer Play Leader, we require a semester commitment for stability reasons for the clients. You are required to pass a background check, attend 2 hour orientation, and complete an online trauma training certification.

Must be at least 18 years of age;
commit to volunteer on a fixed schedule for a two hour shift at least once a week for at least one semester (fall, spring, or summer); complete an online Texas Trauma Certification; able to engage children with age appropriate games, art projects, and so forth; able to make objective observations about child behavior; have willingness to initiate discussions about playroom problems and achievements with therapist and administrative staff; attend a 2 hour orientation; and pass a criminal background check. ACGC will pay and complete the background check.  The online Texas Trauma Certification is free and must be completed before you work with clients.
