Description
This year on September 15 & 16, we will be honoring the 10 Year Anniversary of the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.

The idea of establishing a cultural facility for Latino artists and the community in Austin emerged in the early 1970's. Several local visionaries and artists approached the City of Austin to request support for the development of a Latino focused cultural arts facility.

After the unsuccessful passing of a City Bond to fund the ESB-MACC, the community regrouped and with the leadership provided by Latino elected officials and other leaders of the community, the 1999 bond package was approved by the voters.

The reality of the long-time dream was finalized on September 15, 2007 with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by thousands from the community.

For the past decade the ESB-MACC has served as a symbol of the culture, activism and perseverance of our community and the 30+ years of hard work it took to create.

The festivities begin Friday, September 15 from 6-8pm. We will be hosting a gallery opening exhibit with works by Raul Valdez. The following day of Saturday, September 16 from 3-6pm there will be an open house and tours. Later that evening from 6-10pm, celebrate with us in the plaza which includes live music, dancing and children's activities.

Sep 11-15: Volunteers will be needed the week before to assist our staff with adorning our world class facility
Sep 15: We will need volunteers to assist in the gallery for the exhibit opening reception
Sep 16: Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up/take-down, children's activities, vendor set up and much more!
