REP's KuPanda program equips refugee youth ages 12 to 16 with the skills and support they need to excel academically and personally. We pair youth with mentors who follow a custom curriculum that focuses on:
- Encouraging the development of life skills
- Setting personal and professional goals
- Motivating mentees to not only realize the potential within themselves, but to also see the countless opportunities available for them to invest their talents within the city of Memphis.
KuPanda uses a team mentoring approach, meaning two mentors work together in a group of approximately four mentees. KuPanda meets on Friday nights from 5pm-7pm at our site location in Binghampton. Once a month, a Saturday field trip takes the place of our Friday evening meeting. KuPanda mentor nights take place from October to May, coinciding with the Shelby County Schools' academic year.
We are excited to begin our program this year, and are looking forward to welcoming new mentors who share our passion for this community.
MENTOR SEASON IS DURING A NORMAL SCHOOL YEAR FROM AUGUST-MAY
Mentors must be 18 years of age or older, able to pass a background check, and be willing and able to commit two hours a week to this program.
Perks
KuPanda mentors will be given the opportunity to be immersed and learn about the diverse cultures of the Memphis refugee community, build connections with fellow mentors from all over the city, and make a positive change in the life of their mentees.
