We planted ~250 plants (bareroot seedlings, baby palmettos, inland sea oats) with less than 20 volunteers! Conditions were pretty good for this activity: the ground was soft, and a water source was readily available. There was a monthly cleanup going on at the same time that only lasted until 11, so I think some volunteers only scheduled that much time to come out, but we still got a LOT done.
Great experience. Beautiful area and loved giving nature a helping hand! Wonderful organization to volunteer with.
Thanks for being professional, educational, and laid back!
Met with Alberto Pérez and Nate Thayer to review Tar Branch Restoration Plan and decide on project for It's My Park Day. Showed them my technique for girdling invasives and the difference between its results and those of the chisel-based technique.
We planted about 700 saplings! Wow! I really like this method of planting...I believe volunteers enjoy seeing large quantities of plants going in the ground, and the holes are easier to dig than for larger plants.
