About
Work one-on-one with HIAS clients, providing varied types of support as asylum seekers learn how to navigate healthcare, education, and public transportation systems in the DC metro area. Volunteers may help an asylum seeker with English language learning, the job application process, or cultural navigation.
Volunteers play an integral role in HIAS’ efforts to help refugees and asylum seekers in the U.S. and abroad. Whether you are an experienced educator or tutor, have language skills, or are interested in sharing what you love about your community with newcomers, we invite you to learn more about volunteer opportunities near you.
*We will conduct a large group onboarding for direct service opportunities in the DC area in February. If you speak Spanish, French, Russian, Ukranian, Dari, Pashto, or Amharic, you are eligible to be onboarded now by a staff member -- if this applies to you, please contact dcvolunteer@hias.orh. Please click here to create a basic volunteer profile and subscribe to our monthly newsletter to be notified when we begin our next onboarding cycle.
Please contact dcvolunteer@hias.org with any questions or
accommodations.
You will be required to complete a background check through Sterling Volunteers and to sign our volunteer confidentiality forms, as well as to watch a 1 hour recorded training before beginning work with our clients!
