About
Music volunteers bring the healing power of music to hospice patients, offering soothing companionship and emotional support in homes, or care facilities. Music therapy can help ease pain, reduce anxiety and depression, and create moments of joy. Volunteers may perform live music, play recorded music, or sing, while ensuring to tailor each visit to the patient’s preferences and overall needs.
You will...
- Provide music therapy services to patients in the comfort of their homes.
- Document visits and communicate with hospice staff to ensure coordinated care and adherence to patient preferences.
- Follow HIPAA and hospice policies, maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Complete all necessary onboarding and orientation tasks such as paperwork, and training materials.
- Adapt music selections to suit the patient’s condition, mood, and cultural background.
Qualifications and Skills
- Musical proficiency on one instrument or vocal ability.
- Compassion, patience, and active listening skills to support patients and families.
- Ability to work independently while following guidance from hospice staff.
- Experience with frail, terminally ill, or chronically ill individuals is preferred but not required, we will provide you with hospice training so you may get a better understanding of the end-of-life dying process to better prepare you for what this opportunity will entail.
- Must provide your own music instruments if there is not one at the facility or already in the patient's home (for example, if there is no piano in the home or at the facility, you will need to bring your own keyboard to and from visits).
